Increase Your Money while on the Job

Hi! I am Diamond and I am a mom on assignment. You may be wondering what it means to be a mom on assignment. Simply put, I’m a mother dedicated to her children and willing to grow professionally and personally to show up as the best mother I can be. This looks different from day to day but overall I’m doing the dang-on thing!

I can not think of a better way to start this blog than by sharing how my first book can be used to increase the income of moms and professionals by increasing your salary on the job. In my book, Corporate Christian Rise, I share five strategies for navigating the corporate world as a Christian professional. The strategies in this book are taken from the prominent life of Daniel in the Bible. I will share snippets from two of the strategies discussed in the book for you here.

Scripture: Daniel 1:19-20: The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service. In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.

Background: Daniel and his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah were taken from their home in Jerusalem by King Nebuchadnezzar to Babylon. Because of their appearance, wisdom, and aptitude for learning they were selected to train for the king’s service. They rejected the daily provisions of meat and wine from the king and instead ate vegetables and water. This decision was made to not defile their bodies and demonstrated their total reliance on their God.

Daniel and the Hebrew men were in a foreign place. They did not allow the King, their surroundings, or their training to change who they were and how they conduct themselves. Similar to you within your workplace. Your faith is not something
that you want to leave at the door. Trying not to conform to the standards in your workplace is often very challenging, especially for those in corporate environments. Corporate settings tend to be more interested in their bottom line than your relationship with God. If you have not already, you will be confronted with choices to do right or wrong. These choices are not easy and can have negative consequences for your career. There will be times when you are the only one in the room who can speak truth to power. You will have to be cunning and intelligent about how you use your voice, just like Daniel, to get your point across without detriment. Many Christian
professionals wonder how to be successful in their workplaces without compromising their faith. Your first step is to develop exceptional character. When practiced, your character will increase your inner joy, lower work-life stress, and give a deeper
meaning to your time at work. Daniel and the Hebrew men exhibited exceptional character when they refused to eat the daily provision of meat and wine.

Stewardship will bring honor to your Workplace

Scripture: Daniel 2:14-16: When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact. He asked the king’s officer, “Why did the king issue such a harsh
decree?” Arioch then explained the matter to Daniel. At this, Daniel went to the king and asked for time, so that he might interpret the dream for him.

Background: Daniel and the others continued in the king’s service and were considered among the wise men in Babylon. One day King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that greatly troubled his mind. The king decided that he would not tell the
details of his dream but demanded that the wise men interpret it. The astrologers informed the king that no one could know the details of his dream and that his request was too difficult. The king issued an order to put all the wise men of Babylon to death.

According to the Oxford Dictionary Stewardship means the act of taking care of or managing something, for example, property, an organization, money, or valuable objects. I often say that it demonstrates ownership of a person, place, or thing. When Daniel asked the king’s officer, “Why did the king issue such a harsh decree?” he was demonstrating his desire to take ownership of the king’s problem. After learning of the matter in more detail, Daniel asks for time to solve the king’s problem by interpreting his dream. While serving on the king’s service Daniel was on assignment. As Christian professionals, we too should take a stance of stewardship or ownership within our organizations. The problems our organizations face, our co-workers, company stock, and equipment are things
that should matter to us. We must take on the role of silent intercessors praying for the lost, do our best to see the organization’s problems as our own, and spread the joy of the Lord each day with others.
